Nature does nothing in vain and preferes simplicity.
The question is: How to leave it as it is as much as possible?
The project aims to establish the relationship between the existing and planned and to connect each design decision with the location and nature. It is inspired by reality, the environment and the spirit of the place.
In the case of Lignano Pinewood and its unutilized natural potential tempered by time, communications significantly determine the character of the overall spatial solution, as well as the spirit of the units.
A network of pedestrian, hiking, naturalistic and trim trails, as well as bicycle paths that are also provided for e-scooters, four-wheel pedal bikes, sightseeing trains and golf carts, give visitors the opportunity to enjoy the myriad of all the new features of the Lignano Pinewood.
In addition to the existing environment, the visitors have at their disposal new places for rest and relaxation, sport and recreation, playgrounds for children, various leisure areas, grilling spots, educational pavilions, research units, work places in nature, outdoor galleries, biophilic spots and many more.
Existing vegetation is preserved and further developed by replantation of site specific species in vacant or devastated areas.
Various features are elevated from the ground in order to not devastate the existing soil and biodiversity.
The proposed concept encourages recognition of developments in close proximity to good public transport networks, thereby helping to reduce transport-related pollution and congestion. Renovated path networks promote sustainable reductions in transport burdens by undertaking a site specific travel assessment.
Scattered across this natural setting of Lignano Pinewood, among other features, the variety of biophilic installations bring new attraction points for curious visitors as well as the locals. These installations propagate low carbon build in general and use of recycled materials.
The research stations and multipurpose pavilion are conceived as freely grouped units that are interconnected by access paths and plateaus which, as a kind of connective tissue, integrate both the activities in the pavilions and their volumes.
The bungalows are designed as freely grouped units that are interconnected by access paths and plateaus that, as a kind of connective tissue, integrate both the activities in the pavilions and their volumes.
One of most discernible features is the viewpoint. Designed as a bold twisting metal frame construction with wood panel cladding, it overhangs tree tops and provide distinctive panoramic view at surrounding forest.
